Designer Vs Developer

Hi there. I have a problem. I enjoy doing web design, UI / UX and apps. But I also like to develop and learn languages like javascript, html5. I am interested in learning Javascript, WebGL, Three.js and if necessary C ++ PHP MySQL. But I have to practice design. I love both areas. Right now I'm working as a designer only. But I want to learn these technologies and make my projects and experiments. It is possible that a person may be very good at web design, UI design and development mastering these technologies?

Definitely. Just keep practicing and designing/developing. I hope this video gives you more insight regarding the path of a designer, a developer, or a combination of both:

You don't have a problem. You're exactly what you should be doing...being a problem solver.

Design is not just about aesthetics it's about functionality. Development isn't just about coding a "design". Both should feedback on each other solving problems for you user.

Check out Aral Balkan's talk on Superheroes & Villains in Design. You should follow him on twitter too. Tell him I sent you! ;)

Hello Andrew, Thank you so much for this video, which teaches you more than what you learn in 1 year at the University.

Thanks for the vid Andrew! Great contribution!

Rosina, your comment "more than what you learn in 1 year at University" made me think...

I started learning from Treehouse 3 weeks ago, and what I've learned in this time has by far surpassed a whole year in Computer Science. I started Computer Science in one of Mexico's most prestigious (and expensive :S) Universities: ITESM. I quit after a year because I couldn't care less about written stupid exams related to compilers and algorithms, instead of challenges regarding web development and game design. Not that I was against "hardcore" CS, but the way in which that University tends to flood one's curriculum with useless, pointless and overly theoretical subjects really discouraged me. The cool thing is that last week I spoke to one of my former CS colleagues, and I was more updated than he was regarding web development trends and all for just $25 a month!!! (I used to pay around 1,500 USD monthly for a similiar education in a prestigious University).

Anyway, here's an article and an ad that add to this conversation:
