Developing on windows?

I just posted a question about developing rails on a windows machine. I wanted to ask more of a broad question. My goal is to become a computer scientist...not a programmer. I would love to go into game development/web/software development.

Do most people use os x or windows for these developments?

I can't speak to game development but in my experience (YMMV) of web/software, a lot of front end devs use Mac, a lot of application/backend devs are on Windows (typically with a Linux VM or a Linux box to the side). Again, this will vary but that's just my experience.
