Difference Between This and GitHub Desktop?

So could someone explain the pro's and cons of committing repositories, changes, etc. this way (through your shell prompt), and then doing it through 'GitHub Desktop'?

It's just easier and faster to commit changes in your project using shell. It seems like it's hard and you need to know commands but it's not. You'll get used to it eventually. There's no real difference between GUI and shell versions, functionally it's the same
