Different Categories for Custom Post Types

Hi! I am building a Portfolio Theme on Wordpress. I want to categorize my work, in 3 different categories (Motion Design, Interactive Design and Communication Design), but I want this categories to be different from the blog categories. Any ideas on how should I approach this?

With the custom post types UI, you can setup custom taxonomies :)

What do you mean different? As in if somebody clicks on that category, viewing that post type, they only get other posts of that post type with that cateogry?

On my portfolio page I want it to be able to filter the work (like Mixitup.io) does. I have the portfolio items as custom post types. But I don't want this categories to appear on my regular blog, on my regular blog I want other categories like lifestyle, design, personal, etc... I hope I explain myself better... I'm sorry english is not my first language
