disabled vs enabled

Is there a reason why disabled has to be added to the HTML <input type="text" name="email" placeholder="email" disabled /> and not enabled or checked?

Enabled (or disabled = false) is the default so when you add disabled, it tells the browser that disabled is equal to true.
