Disadvantages of using absolute positioning

What are some of the main disadvantages of (excessively) using absolute positioning?

None! Everything has it's use.

Well unless you count old browsers.

When you zoom in or out of a page that has elements using absolute positioning, your browser will automatically try to rearrange the elements, making a huge mess on your page, unless you do something about the zoom property with JavaScript
