Problem solving is a major part of coding, w3schools is a great reference outside of Treehouse when you are trying to work things out. You could also try googling the question, it could turn up where another user already asked about that question on the Treehouse forum.

Do you mean ask a question on the forums? You don't have to, and it's generally encouraged that you review the video prior to a quiz/challenge before asking a question.

If you find that you're not able to learn the content, consider re-watching the videos, redoing quizzes (they have different questions sometimes), and of course asking on the forums or Googling if you're still having difficulty understanding.

If you can't answer the quiz then you are not ready to move on. Treehouse is offering a learning environment. Not a free badge environment.

No, this isn't Codeschool ;)... You can freely, advance to another video without completing a challenge. However, if you aren't grasping something, it's best to either post here in the forums, re-watch a video, or even reference an outside source like Google or a book. Programming is all about problem solving, so avoiding the problems isn't the best option.
