Do we need to worry about security issues when writing a URL value to a string with node and renderer.js?

I noticed in the node.js tutorials the instructor is writing URL values to string like in renderer.js or response.writing URL values to the DOM. Is there security best practices we need to take into consideration when doing this in a production environment? Can someone point me to a good place to read more about node.js and security best practices?
