Do you listen to music

when you're coding? Or not? I like the Tron:Legacy soundtrack for some reason, or classical, at times, too...

Yes. I tend to listen to top 100 when I'm coding (aka all those songs you hear over and over again on the radio on most major stations).

Very nice ;)

I actually find classical music distracting half the time when trying to focus. . . probably because I played the Viola for about 6 years growing up. And then the base for another 4.

Makes sense. I played the piano.

I listen to recordings of Les Brown. Helps keep me motivated and in the can do mindset.

That is a great idea!

Hootie and the Blowfish is my coding music of choice!

Ooh!

Soundtracks - music from games, film, television as well as classical or baroque music. Though sometimes, I just like to enjoy the silence, this is often instead to drown out the noise :)

I hear you.

Especially when I come home and I'm trying to study/focus. 2 kids and 4 dogs can prove to be distracting at times.

Nice!

I know how that can go. I have a 2 year old who can be very distracting when she feels she is in need of attention

I use coffivity too! It does a great job of drowning out background noise, and doesn't distract me like music does.

I guess I'm in the minority. I prefer complete silence. However, sometimes I like to go to a Starbucks or Panera, the background noise isn't bothersome there for one reason or another.

I like SBUX and Panera!

When I have complete silence I end up talking to myself. Late at night when I'm the last person in the office, I can't tell you how many conversations I've had with myself. The amount of things I've hashed out and explained vocally to an empty room.

I'm also very good at winning hypothetical arguments with other people by myself. It's probably in one of the top three spots of things I am good at.

Interesting! I wonder what "myself" thinks about this? Feel free to reply to "myself" or to this message.

Sometimes it helps to have someone to bounce ideas off of and get a fresh perspective from someone outside of the box. Even if that person happens to be yourself, or your dog, but not my dog because she signed an NDA.

Michael, I do the same thing! My inner voice becomes my outer voice rather frequently when I'm alone. It helps me hash out issues as well, as if I'm discussing with two people. Kind of weird I suppose...

Definitely!

That's me too. Though its part of why I really like music when I work. My inner voice can be very distracting if I'm not careful and music or something to half focus on helps that

The tron legacy soundtrack is good. In fact I listened to it so much that I'm now sick of it. haha. I have an 'Alesso' (if you like Daft Punk check him out) station on Pandora. Any electronic music is good because if there are words it's easy to ignore and just focus on the beat. I can't stand silence. Background noise from the TV is also acceptable.

Thanks! I can't stand silence either.
