General Discussion

Does anyone else find the the Treehouse Team to be weirdos?

The creepy smile by the one guy in the videos is so creepy. Not helpful at all. Then the tall ginger with the scientific measuring flask and regular measuring glass drinks his drink in the console video intro by mixing them together and says "ahh". I wish the videos didnt include the stupid remarks and stupid quirks trying to be funny. Its borderline creepy to me. Like I am being taught by people on the Megans Law website.

This post was a bit harsh in hindsight. I will repost by saying nick pettit's style is most preferred, little animals in the videos are are unnecessary, and creepy smiles or bill nye esque jokes are unnecessary. Occasional humor is coo tho. Overall I like every video ive watched though. Was only merely making a remark, not looking to trash treehouse. Sorry for any confusion.

I think they are funny and entertaining. But I guess not everyone has the same sense of humour :P

Entertaining videos to watch, and educational, of course. Oh, and I haven't seen anything creepy about the teamtreehouse videos!

lol..

Tagging Jason Seifer, Jim Hoskins & Nick Pettit on this one

ah yes Jason Seifer ... the "creepy" smile guy ;)

Yes they are weirdoes and I love it!

Much more entertaining then just listening to someone drone on in a monotone voice for 6 hours. :) But like Naima Arif said, their style isn't for everyone.

You should try out other online schools and see if one is a better fit for you. My personal 2 favorites are here and Lynda.com, I tried out code school and code academy, they weren't my cup of tea, but other people I know absolutely love them. :)

I hope you find a school that you enjoy and keep marching forward with your learning whether it's here or somewhere else!

Shawn Denham - Woah Lynda over Code School, I think your the first person I've heard express such a point of view.

Yeah I get that a lot. I dunno, something about Code School that I really just don't like.

The videos and organization are great on treehouse. I dont want another source of learning. Comprehensive. Yet creepy and strange at times is all

:D

Yes, definitely! Especially jason.js :-P

I think they're great. Intelligent, unassuming, unpretentious, parlayed with a sense of humor. Keep it up!

everybody is weird in their own special way :)

I agree with you joanna. That sometimes distract my attention and make my understanding more difficult.

Really?, I mean... REALLY!?

I love their weirdness, as a weirdo myself, I feel at home. But yeah, not everyone will like the way they act...that's sad though, I have yet to find a single course that is pointless, they are really worth it. I hope this will not keep you from learning anything.

I find it a bit distracting occasionally, and it did put me off signing up for a good few months. I'm glad they want to be entertaining, but I think it comes across a bit to cheesy.

I agree not only is it distracting at times but the over all concept of a treehouse and a frog seems kiddish. Maybe thats just me but other than that the information and content is excellent.

Couldnt have said it better

I think if they were people I actually knew it would be endearing. But, since I'm just a customer it comes off as weird/too hipster.

hipster? really?

Hi everyone,

Great discussion happening here. At Treehouse, our team discusses humor a lot. We certainly don't want to annoy people, but at the same time, we want beginners to understand that design and programming don't have to be serious all the time. We're trying to create a friendly and approachable environment. Striking that balance and providing a great service is far more difficult than it might appear, so we appreciate your patience with our weird quirks while we continue to evolve our style. :)

The style seems to vary widely between teachers. Some do approachable quite well without seeming quirky at all. And some seem to try to hard (maybe over acting) and come off as more lovably quirky than friendly and approachable.

Totally agree. We're trying to be more consistent about it, but at the same time, it's not worth reshooting tons of content just because it's a little weird. It's something we'll continue to fix moving forward as we create new courses and refresh old ones. :)

Concur.

Tommy Morgan - What's that from?

I'll your Donnie Darko Gif and raise you a tumblr tag http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/you're-weird-i-like-you

Everyone watch treehouse's first Treehouse show episode 1, to see what she's talking about LOL.
