Does Swift have collections like stacks or queues? Or does the programmer has to write them in self-contained classes?

Swift does not have pre defined classes for collection types other than arrays and dictionaries. you can use Generics to implement data structures such as stacks and queues. The Swift eBook section on generic types actually walks you through the process of creating a stack data structure using generic types
