Doing agency work as a freelancer, the pros and cons

Just wondering, as a freelance web designer, what is the typical reality of doing agency work, particularly in the UK?

Hey Gemma!

Can you elaborate please? What do you mean by "typical reality"?

Thanks for being a Treehouse Student!

Cheers, Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I mean, what can a freelance web designer expect when they are doing some agency work? What is the reality of doing agency work as a freelance web designer? I guess I'm thinking along the lines of deadlines, payment terms, repeat work, agency's expectations, etc.

I hope that made my question clearer.

Hi Gemma

Unfortunately it'll be different for every company but I would expect you to probably bill hourly in this case. It's expensive for them in the short term, but cheaper in the long term because they don't have to pay your benefits or worry about overheads if the business slows down.

Best of luck! Ryan

Thanks for the insight.

I recently heard that a lot of the bigger ones use recruiters and these recruiters tend to try and negotiate rates, so not sure going down this route would help my bottom line. :/
