Doubt about the subtraction

Why after the subtraction of the numbers of questions I have to type once again questionsLeft = ' [' + questions + ' questions left]';

questionsLeft doesn't update just because questions changed. A variable takes on a value at the time it is assigned. To show the change the assignment is repeated.
