eCommerce website costs

Do developers charge a lot for eCommerce websites because they have to use payment gateways and SSL certificates and other paid for services?

For example if I use credit card payment gateways with WooCommerce and purchase an SSL for the customer it costs me, lets say $300 and I quoted the client $1000 for the website I take home $700, is this often the case? or do developers actually take home the whole amount?

I am a complete eCommerce novice and am just trying to wrap my head around building eCommerce sites for clients.

Hi Daniel,

WooCommerce is free plugin of WordPress and you can find it at WordPress repository. But In case you wanted to purchase SSL, Premium theme you will have to pay for this. So developer need to pay this amount to them. If you quote $1000 what you will get is remaining amount after payment made to the services purchased. Hope this will help you.

Thanks, Arif

Late to this discussion, but thought I would make a comment. First, check to see the hosting package that your customer has. For example, HostGator includes a SSL for free with a business hosting account. No need to purchase it from a third party.

I also think that the payment gateways can be free, depending on how you set it up.

I am building my own E Commerce website now, and I will have better answers shortly.
