Employment in PHP

I want to gain employment making websites in PHP. I am not sure how to test myself to know when I am ready to start applying for positions. If anyone could help me out with what I need to complete in relation to treehouse courses and a test I can give myself after completion to know when I am ready.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your help :)

Do you have some websites you've worked on to show? Most employers will ask to see your GitHub account and look at some of your code. They'll expect it to be clean, with minimal to no hacks, well organized and documented. The best place to find out what employers are looking for is to look at requirements on job postings. Go to LinkedIn and see what employers are asking of PHP devs. Most employers will expect to see at least some of your work on GitHub or similar site before you even get your foot in the door though.

As for PHP specifically, experience with MVC frameworks like Laravel are really popular and sought after.

Hey Nick, I have made websites before but only using wordpress and themes. I have also wrote custom code for custom post types for front end.

If I want to impress should I aim to make a site from scratch using something like Laravel and a a CSS framework like bootstrap?

What kind of things should I add to git hub?

Also what qualifies as impressive, would a standard website made in laravel and bootstrap not be satisfactory?
