Emulator just says android

The emulator just shows android loading over and over. It has been like this for 15-20 minutes.

Its usually about the size of your machine , and the ram you allocate your AVD, that said , you're much better off working with the genymotion check the link here emulatorhttps://www.genymotion.com/#!/

Thanks. What are the steps to use genymotion? Do I still use Android Studio? Do they work together? Help me better understand.

Yes you will still use Android Studio, genymotion is a stand alone application when u download and install it, you will just need to configure it and it will appear in your android studio. Where you select your emulator device when u run your app , genymotion emulator will show up and u can select it.

However the best I have found is using a real device , fortunately I use an android device.
