Emulator won't load app

I'm following along with the crystal ball app series. So far everything has been good and no problems. Well when I open my emulator, the app won't load. Is there anything i can do to get it to load? Anything i can click on, on the emulator? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi Michael,

I ran through the same problem when I started out. These are the possible solutions that worked for me

  • if you have already started the emulator before hand and the application does not show up it could probably be that you are currently in the design phase (the one where you add all the buttons and everything) or some other part of the application is active and you are clicking run button. In that case nothing will load in the emulator since eclipse cannot judge what to load. You will have to select either the Main_Activity.java file and then click the run button or select any of the files from the project structure in the left (src, res , etc. folders) and then click run

  • if the emulator has not been previously started. Check in your gen folder in the project directory that an .apk file has been produced. If that is available then your program has compiled fine. Either try restarting the eclipse application or try creating a new emulator and check if it works

I'll be around if you need more help on this.

Hi Michael,

Do you get any kind of messages in the Console or LogCat tabs in Eclipse? That's the first place to look to start troubleshooting if your app isn't loading.

I'd also recommend checking out Genymotion, which I recently released a stage about. It's a third-party emulator that usually works much better than the default one.

Some times while on the emulator I had to swipe the lockscreen and go into the menu to select the crystal ball app.
