Error message: Make sure you add shape as the first element in the xml

Hello, so I keep getting an error message that says "Make sure you add she as the first element in the xml". For this challenge I wrote it the same way it was show in the lesson before this. I also tried having android:shape on the first line, and I still get this error. Could I possibly get some help regarding what is throwing this error?

bg_gradient.xml 
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
          android:shape = "rectangle">   
</selector>

In your code the first element is selector.

O thank you. I didn'trealize that we didn't need that xml stuff that we usually have in the beginning
