Error on mysql workbench

I set up a connection in mysql workbench. It didn't connect when I just had regular mysql so I downloaded xampp and uninstalled mysql. The connection works now except when I get to testing host machine settings I get this error: Error: /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server start is invalid

I think it may have to do with the instructions to add code to terminal for mac users but since I'm not using regular SQL it doesn't work/apply. This video series is pretty frustrating.
