Error when sending test SMTP email

I set up the Easy Word Press SMTP with my Gmail account using the suggested host, encryption and port. When I send the test email (from the bottom of the screen) a message shows up just below the "Save Changes" button saying " Extension missing: openssl" and no email is received. I have tried both SSL & TLS with the same results. Any ideas??

Looking at the instructions here I see that for gmail you actually need TLS and port 567. At the time the video was made, gmail used SSL and port 465. Could that be the problem?

Hi Medulla, I tried both ways, what the video said and what the Easy Wordpress SMTP page said for gmail accounts. Got the same error message for both. This was a couple of weeks ago but in a recent exercise that called for emailing from a contact page I still got no message even though I tried a couple of different email addresses to see if that was the problem. Still not functioning...Steve

Yeah same here.

I also tried both ways (TLS 567 and SSL 465) and received no test emails either way. I actually don't receive any error messages, it's just that just my gmail address does not receive any test messages. Can somebody please help here...
