Favorite Hosting Website?

I'm just wondering what everyone's favorite hosting website is and which ones are not liked. I want to start building websites for people and I'm not sure which hosting website to start with.

One of the biggest issues of choosing a host is which back-end language you want to use. For HTML or PHP almost any host will work. For Python, Ruby, or Node you may need something more specific. For Python I like Openshift(setup can be complex) or PythonAnywhere.

So true. The reason I'm dealing with Heroku so much right now is because of how easy they make it to push your Ruby projects to production. Just throw a few commands and its good to go. From the looks of it, it would be just as easy to do some of the other big name, back end languages too.

Heroku looks good I just haven't ever had the time to figure it out. It seems very similar to Openshift. Any specific advantages?

I can't compare it to Openshift since I've never used that. What I can say is that when I used Hostgator, I had to log in and FTP files and do a bunch of work to get my files on there. Heroku gets deployed almost exactly like pushing something to Github. Deployment is such an easy process and takes all of about 3-5 minutes. The main reason I use it is because some of the people I code with also use it and suggested it to me once I decided to stop doing PHP and start doing Ruby.

The sound very similar, it would be neat if someone could do a compare and contrast of these websites with specific easy installs for Treehouse students.

I notice you're in a TeamTreehouse group on Github. Sounds like something you guys could put together.

Honestly that project kind of sputtered out...I simply haven't had the time to try to get it going again. If you would like to try I would be happy to hand over the reins.

No thanks. My plate is pretty full right now of some other projects.

I am in the same boat. If only there were more hours in the day I might be able to finish a quarter of the things I am working on. If I ever get it going though I will be sure to toss you an invite.

I use Hostgator and Heroku. I'm probably going to stop using Hostgator though. No issues with them, I just don't really need their services right now. It all depends on what your specific needs are for any given application and you're going to have to try different ones out and figure out which one/s work best for you. Cheers mate.
