Hi, how would I implement the loop with the_post_thumbnail function using CSS backgrounds?
For custom portfolios, I would like to display the images as CSS backgrounds rather than using <img>
Thanks

To use an image as a (CSS) background you need the URL of the image.
For example:
<div style="background-image: url( <?php the_post_thumbnail_url(); ?> )" > </div>
For more info check: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_post_thumbnail_url
