Few Standard Practice Questions

Hi All, I've finished all the Treehouse Tutorials and now working on my own app. I'm currently researching the best practices for saving a login password in my app and also the best way to send a username / password to a web service.

I have no experience with either of these two things and it seems like there is alot of conflicting stuff out there.

Can anyone give me a shove in the right direction who has had experience with real world examples?

I keep seeing Keychain store being mentioned but then I don't understand how this ties into the iPhone or how you can access it without a MAC?

In regards to uploading to a server I've read about encryption / decryption / hashing and HTTPS but I'm not sure what the best method is or which has a nice balance of security / ease to implement.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
