file path ../data/flashcards/json vs ./data/flashcards.json

I'm super confused why when I try to require the 'flashcard.json' file from my data folder, which is in the same parent folder as routes and views folder for this project, I have to use '../data/' as the file path, but when I require routes. I only use './routes'
