PHP Build a Basic PHP Website (2018) Enhancing a Form Escaping Output

Filter input and escape output: Are they both required to create a safe web-app?

Do I have to use both of these principles to create a safe web page, or using one of them is enough?

You should always filter your inputs with PHP and always escape your outputs (escape them when you output them not before).

If you do not filter your inputs you leave your self open to injection attacks and if you do not escape your outputs you leave yourself and other people browsing your website vulnerable to url attacks.
