Hey guys,
I have been learning iOS for a few months and have completed pretty much all the Treehouse content for iOS. I am at the point now where I really want to make an app and put it on the app store but I am totally stuck. Any tips on coming up with your first app idea? What is the best way to start, completely from scratch or with some sort of template?
I'd love to hear any tips anyone has on how they made their first app for the app store.

20,597 PointsAlthough it's not iOS i am currently developing an app on the windows store i had the same problem that you were having. I think the stumbling block was trying to create an app on the level on fb lol but what i would advise is to build something that solves a problem that your having or someone you know is having. In example if you have children why not build them a spelling game ? Wanna go shopping why not build a todo list the possibilities are endless its best to take a simple concept and turn it into a solution in people's lives

4,020 PointsThanks for the response! I feel like I keep thinking that whenever I get an idea I tell myself "well thats already been done." but yeah your right maybe I am "trying to build Facebook."

20,597 PointsThe thing is that things have already been done which shouldn't be a put of you've got to look at it this way that its the way you implement your app idea. Before Facebook there was MySpace. Before Vine there was instagram all these apps are very similar but they have focused on one thing that makes their app unique :)

Just find an app that needs improvement and make a better version if you are stuck for ideas :) My first app on the app store is iQuadratic which is a quadratic solver which has been done many times already on the app store. I made that one just for the sake of learning how to make an app. My second app on the app store is iColour which lets you find out the name of a colour in a photo you take or load out of a list of 1000 colours. I made that app because a colour blind friend of mine was having trouble buying a green shirt. I haven't seen an app similar to mine but there might be one.
