Favor more RAM and an SSD drive over, CPU speed or a Retina display (since we are talking iOS development not graphics-based work).

For developing iOS apps I'd suggest:

  • Upgrade to 8GB of Ram
  • Choose a 128GB SSD over a 500 SATA Drive

You are going to want at least a 13" screen maybe a 15" inch depending on how much you like your screen real estate. If you get a 15" it only comes in Retina display and it's Ram can't be upgraded.

As for hard drive space that's cost convenience trade-off, I'd favor the 128GB SSD that's internal then if in a few years you need more space get a 1TB portable external drive.
