for the logos, difference between using 2 classes instead of selecting whole footer?

Okay so we made the twitter and facebook icons 20px by defining a class, which made each logo that size.

Mr. Nick was saying we could have selected the whole footer instead, but if we did this wouldn't it make the entire footer the size we say, or will it still be the same deal as the classes.

In this example, if you were to use an element selector (footer) to customize the icons, you will also need to specify the child element(s) that contain the icons, which are the actual <img> tags/elements.

So it would look like this:

footer img {
   width: 20px;
   height: 20px;
}

You could also go into even more detail:

footer a img {
    width: 20px;
    height: 20px;
}
