From Bootstrap to Wordpress Course: Can't get comments enabled

I am doing the From Bootstrap to Wordpress course and I am on the "Creating a Single Blog Listing Page" video. However, I can't seem to enable the ability to comment on a blog post. I have checked "allow comments" in the "Screen Options" at the top of the page and also in the middle of the page in the "Quick Edit" section. In the Settings->Discussion "Allow people to post comments on new articles" is enabled. After doing all of these things, I still can't get the ability to comment on a blog post working. Thanks for your help in this matter. I know it is a silly thing to be worried about but I'm kind of a perfectionist and I want the website to work exactly as Zac intended.
