Android Build a Simple Android App (2014) Basic Android Programming Initializing a Button

Frustrated with Challenge task 1 of 1 Initialize the showFactButton!!

"Initialize the showFactButton variable using the findViewById() method like the TextView above it. The ID for the button is showFactButton, and don't forget to cast it to a Button with (Button)!"

Multiple attempts even using forum no luck! Please Help! Here's my last answer attempted.

    // Declare our View variables and assign them the Views from the layout file
    TextView factLabel = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.factTextView);
    Button showFactButton;

    Button showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.showFactButton);
    Button showFactButton;
}

}

FunFactsActivity.java
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.Button;
import android.widget.TextView;

public class FunFactsActivity extends Activity {

    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_fun_facts);

        // Declare our View variables and assign them the Views from the layout file
        TextView factLabel = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.factTextView);
        Button showFactButton;

        Button showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.showFactButton);
        Button showFactButton;
    }
}

For future reference, the code needed to be added is:

Button showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.showFactButton);

The code is referencing the showFactButton from the XML code. This is done by the findViewById which can locate the section which you are looking for.

you have Button showFactButton twice. delete one.

Button showFactButton;

showFactButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.showFactButton);

try that.

Thank you Oscar! Finally worked.
