When you pass variables via the URL for example:

www.example.com?name=Richard&job=webDev

You could then use $_GET to assign those values to variables like:

$name = $_GET['name'];
$profession = $_GET['job'];

the question mark is used before the first variable in the URL and a "&" for every proceeding variable.
