Getter method vs public final variable

Instead of making a getAnswer() method that returns the String answer, I just made the answer variable in Game.java a public final instead of a private so that I could access it from Prompter.java as game.answer.

Would this be an acceptable solution, or is there a compelling reason to make a separate method for this instead?
