Getting a fatal error when moving directories with Git

Hi I'm trying to move the documents in the scripts directory into the newly created app directory, (1:34 of video) and keep getting a

fatal: source directory is empty, source = public/scripts, destination = app/scripts

The source directory is not empty. I can bypass this error by moving the files manually but that gives me errors further in the tutorial.
