Getting data from camera

Recently an app called Photo Math was added to the appstore. Basically this app let you take a picture of an equation and give as output the result.

My question here is:

Does anyone know how to achieve this? I mean, sometimes I have some app ideas related with the camera and I would like to get some data through the camera but I have no idea which classes I should use or a tutorial I could follow...

Thanks in advance.

To use the Camera or Photo Library in ios you need to use the class UiImagePickerController.

Here is a good tutorial explaining how to use this whilst also building a basic camera app.
