Getting weird calls!!

I have added my real number to my website but I have been receiving some weird calls from all over the place, and when I pick up the phone the person on the other end either says my name and then hangs up or they just hang up without saying anything.

I have changed my number on my website to a fake number but can please tell me why someone would call and then hang up.

Thanks in advance.

You wll probably find that once your phone number is on your website in plain text that data collection bots will collect the data from your website and add you to calling lists.

You should add your number to the Telephone Preference Service. http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html

What this does is officially opt you out of being cold called by calling centres, as they are not allowed to cold call or marketing call numbers that are registered on the TPS list.

It can take up to 2 weeks to stop recieving the spam calls. If you recieve spam calls or SMS 2 weeks after registering on the TPS list you can actually take legal action against cold callers that call you or report them to TPS. The only information you need to hand over to report someone is your phone number and the time of the call.

It is a very good service and since signing up last year my business and my personal phone has recieved zero cold calls from call centres and marketing agencies.

This is the internet you get scammers, trolls and marketers if you can find the number they are calling you from and they are repeatedly spam-calling you report it on http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/action/how-to-stop-nuisance-phone-calls-

Honestly you should remove the number completely. It sounds like people are "prank" calling you, which is really not nice, and rather childish. Personally you should just have a twitter, or email address that people can get a hold of you for work. It makes it easier for the potential client to give you as much info as possible, Remember this is the internet, there are jerks using it.

Use cloudflare. It stops spammers. AKA the bots.
