General Discussion

Gimp should be on Treehouse.

With all of the tutorials for 1 billion dollar drawing and photo editing programs that most people can't get, Why is there not a tutorial for an amazing free software called GIMP. It has a learning curve, but it does many basic features that Photoshop does and most importantly, it is free. Seriously, there should be a course on this program instead of the paid ones, more people will learn to create great things without paying a ton of money for a program that does most of the things that gimp, which is free does.

Sorry for deleting that comment and all the posts. I think that was either spam, a virus, or someone being a little rude. The comment was oddly thought provoking but so far off topic I deleted it anyway.

I would enjoy a GIMP tutorial and it would likely inspire me to try design some more because I refuse to drop that kind of money on something which is not my main focus.

Goodluck! --Ricky

Short version-- GIMP's not on Treehouse because it won't help you get a job. Employers expect you to know Photoshop. If you don't, you're putting yourself at a significant disadvantage in the job market-- particularly since you'll be up against so many other applicants that do know Photoshop already.

Plus, you don't have to pay a thousand dollars to use Photoshop. You can get a monthly subscription to PhotoshopCC for $10-15 a month, I think, plus there's a month's free trial.
