git add README returns fatal :spec path 'README' didnot match any files

I create file called README using 'notepad README' command but when i try to add it it returns that fatal :spec path 'README' didnot match any files

are you sure you saved the README file in the correct directory where you repository is located?

Try saving it as README.txt (Seems to work for windows)
