Good Resource for Creating a "comments.php" Template from Scratch

I've been following along the WordPress Track with Zac Gordon and I'm finally at the stage where I have started to build my own theme. Everything is coming along great, I'm up to the part of creating the blog component of the theme and I was able to successfully display an archive of all the posts as well as the post single. But I am stuck on how to create the comments.php template as they really is no decent look at how it is done, and how I can customize it to suit my needs.

Does anyone have any good references that they use on how to create the comments.php template from scratch as I am so lost on this one.

Thanking you in advance

Stu :)

Have you looked into the comments.php file of default templates? I used Twenty Sixteen's one as a base for mine.
