Google Maps API: How to set up images to display in the map

Is it useful to have Google Maps or other Maps API that allows to display any image in the map instead of the markers? the idea is that it will be displayed a facebook profile picture on it. Is this possible using Google Maps or with other maps API?

Yes. Totally doable. You'll naturally need the Facebook API/Oauth for this as well, though.
