Google not using my Meta Description

I have added the below meta description to my online portfolio.

<meta name="description" content="Daniel Botta's Programming Portfolio Website">

It is showing my description, but I am getting this:

"Daniel Botta's Programming Portfolio Website. ... It looks like something went wrong. Please try again. Daniel Botta. Web Developer. Portfolio. Projects ยท Resume."

As you can see it looks terrible because it is showing what is actually a hidden message that only shows if my contact form fails to send the email. It's also showing my nav bar. Is there anyway I can get this to just show my description and not any of the other ugly content? Would it help to make my description longer possibly pushing out the other content?

Did you insert it into your header like so

<head> <title>Google meta test</title> <meta name="description" content="Daniel Botta's Programming Portfolio Website"> </head>

Don't forget not adding a title will show random stuff!

I have a title. I think I may have figured out the issue. I had two meta descriptions so that may have been problem.
