guidance to start building a portfolio

i recently want to start building a strong portfolio and i really don't know from where to start, i don't have any problem with html or css or even javascript or jquery... , i just don't know how to start building my online strong portfolio site, like 1 - like what links i have to put in the menu, 2 - what contents i should put in my home page and so on, i would love to get help, from you guys, and i'm really looking for guidance on how to create a strong online portfolio thank you for all kind regards

I would suggest looking up other portfolio's in your career path i.e. other web devs, web designers, graphic artists or what ever you do. Check out what they did and see what they feel is most important to put on their site. You should use these sites as a form of inspiration for your own portfolio.
