Hangman.class/Game.class

I don't understand why and how Hangman.java created Hangman.class when It was refreshed after compilation, and so too Game.class. How were they created? Does this happen here only on Treehouse workspaces or it also happened in IDE's?

compiling produces the class files. they are the bytecode that is executed on the java virtual machine. IDEs all do it too, that's how java works.
