Happy Thanksgiving to all of my fellow Frogs that celebrate it. I hope you have and a wonderful day, full of turkey, stuffing, laughter, and love.
And for those that don't celebrate it, I hope you have a wonderful day, too.

Courses Plus Student 15,597 PointsReally I don't get how people can sit with a smile on their face eating a poor dead animal that eventually just causes you to get ill from cancer or other terrifying diseases.
It's 2015, black people are free, women have rights, gays and lesbians have no discrimination against - what about the poor animals? Go vegan this year for the oppressed animals, for your health, for your children to be raised not to know to pet a dog but slaughter the cow, that's how racism was born.
That's the REAL thanksgiving.

8,840 PointsIf I decide to not eat meat today, it won't bring millions of turkeys back to life. They're already dead. Why not eat them?

Michael Afanasiev
Courses Plus Student 15,597 PointsEvery person that eats vegan, saves about 350 animals a year. There are 53 billion animals slaughtered each YEAR for pleasure.
Why not eat dogs and cats too soon as they die too? I'm guessing you didn't give a lot of thought before you posted your comment.
With thoughts like yours the world will get nowhere because everyone will think "why bother" instead of doing something and being the change you want to see in this world.

8,840 PointsI don't think it's fair to say that slavery was the byproduct of humans killing animals. Thousands of years ago, men who were captured in war were transitioned into a life of slavery. When villages were raided, they took the women and children and put them to work. That's how the slave cycle began.
Referencing what you've previously written, homosexuals are stillbeing discriminated against. I'm not imposing my opinion, that's just the reality of it. The approval of gay marriage doesn't just make discrimination go away. Just how when the United States got their first African American president, racism didn't just evaporate into thin air. And if/when we get our first female president, women will still be marginalized.
Now for my opinions. (You can skip this section if you'd like)
I personally HATE when Americans emphasize double standards. I don't understand why some people argue that gay people should have the right to marry (I agree with this part) because they are humans just like everyone else and we live in the land of the free and blah, blah, blah yet they want to restrict what these free people eat because they know what's best for them. I don't get it! Are you fighting for free rights across all or just for whatever you think is a step in the right direction? Most of the time it's the latter. Now I have no problem whatsoever with that (really, I don't) just as long as I'm able to speak my mind about whatever the hell I want. Free speech right? I should be able throw a parade on 9/11 right?
And by the way, I was going to keep my mouth shut but you have a knack for pushing buttons. Bring me your dead dog and I'll eat it right in front of your smug looking face. I'm not saying "why bother" to the lives of animals. I love animals. But just as a tiger has the right to eat whatever the heck it wants, I do too. Humans have actually HELPED many areas that were suffering due to an imbalance in the ecosystem. There are many areas where let's say sheep simply wouldn't exist because of the amount of predators nearby. Whose side are you on anyways? Do you just not like the taste of meat? That's okay! I hate the taste of coconut. Now just because I don't start some campaign or log onto Treehouse (of all places, seriously) and smugly start shaming those responsible for the deaths of coconuts, doesn't mean I want everyone to immediately end the production of coconut.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your day Michael. Have fun!
EDIT: Oh and I thought you should know that you're not saving them by not eating them. Those animals are still going to die. Someone else will eat them. Butchers don't just set an animal free when they hear that the "mighty" Michael has gone vegan.

19,810 PointsReally, guys? Really?!? facepalm

Michael Afanasiev
Courses Plus Student 15,597 PointsWell Anthony, you should do your research a little bit more deep and you will know that consumers have the greatest power. Once you stop consuming dead animals, there is less need to produce more meat. Who says I don't do anything for animals other than not eating meat? do you even know who I am? I helped rescuing farm animals from slaughter and constantly volenteer in scentuary farms, that have animals who just want to live. I feed stray animals daily, where people just pass them and don't give a damn.
No It's not that I don't like the taste of meat, meat shouldn't be even consumed by humans, regardless of what our ancestors ate.
I will advocate for Veganism wherever I am, because that's the right thing to do, people have to wake up one way or another.
If you really want knowledge, search the movie Earthlings, and the lecture of Garry Yourofsky on YouTube. And I am not from US, I live in Athens, Greece.
