Has anybody else had an issue showing databases that have already been created in their terminal?

Hi I've been struggling with this and I have asked on here and been trolling google for days and have been unable to find the answer. When I create a new database 'biller' the one taught in the migrations course it does not show up when I use the command 'Show Databases' only two databases show up. Yet when I go to mysql workbench there are several listed there. How can I get past this hurdle? And have all existing databases to show?
