Having trouble loading the contents of a file

I am trying out the extra credits for the shopping list app that we create in python basics. I am trying to save the contents of the shopping list onto a file i'm successful in saving the list, however I'm having trouble loading the saved contents back to the program. Actually the shopping_list LIST has the value loaded, but somehow it gets reinitialized to an empty LIST not sure why.
