Java Java Objects (Retired) Harnessing the Power of Objects Throwing Exceptions

help out on this one

i am not understanding how you can get the current battery level to compare it with the laps requested. thanks in advance.

GoKart.java
public class GoKart {
  public static final int MAX_BARS = 8;
  private String mColor;
  private int mBarsCount;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    mColor = color;
    mBarsCount = 0;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return mColor;
  }

  public void drive() {
    drive(1);
  }

  public void drive(int laps) {
    // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes
    mBarsCount -= laps;

    if(mBarsCount > 0 ) {
    throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains");
    }
  }

  public void charge() {
    while (!isFullyCharged()) {
      mBarsCount++;
    }
  }

  public boolean isBatteryEmpty() {
    return mBarsCount == 0;
  }

  public boolean isFullyCharged() {
    return mBarsCount == MAX_BARS;
  }

}

Hi,

it has been some time since I took this course but I think I can help you here.

public void drive(int laps) {
    // Other driving code omitted for clarity purposes
    mBarsCount -= laps;

    if(mBarsCount > 0 ) {
    throw new IllegalArgumentException("Not enough battery remains");
    }

First tip: you should put your condition before the assignment ('mBarsCount -= laps;'), since otherwise, if the value would already be 0, one could subtract from this value, because the assignment comes first.

Second, you probably want the error to be thrown if the value is below 0, not greater than 0.

I am pretty sure you that are able to fix your problem now :). Let me know if you did.
