Help with animations on load HTML

Hi there. i'm working on a portfolio and I would like to have an animation play on load, then transition to the page. Here is an example: http://weaintplastic.com/ How can I accomplish this?

My prediction is that the user is using JavaScript/jQuery to have animations lead into his/her website. This is possible, but you first must learn how to make static (non-moving) websites. You'll learn more about these type of transitions later in the course.

Im not following the the beginner portfolio course, i'm doing my own project implementing JQuery already with scroll effects. I understand they used javascript, but I would like the way to do it. The way I think its done is:

$once page loads{ playanimation }

But I have (for example) a gif and it wont stop, it just keeps playing. i need to stop it after playing for set amount of time.
