  </head>
  <body>

Hi Shivon! First step of this challenge is changing h1 element with p tag. I see that you created a new h1 tag with a class 'tag name' but not closed properly and it's placed at head section which shouldn't be. You should change you html code as below;

<!doctype html>
<html>
  <head>
    <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet">
  </head>
  <body>

    <h1>Welcome to My Web Page!</h1>

  </body>
</html>

For the css file; after color you have a coma instead of semi colon. So it should be like this;

h1 {
color: purple;
}

thangs alot
