4,071 PointsHi Treehouse community! I'd like to ask... Does anyone have any feedback/reviews on the Techdegree 1 yr programs?
Specifically the Front-End Development Techdegree course?
Thank you!

I haven't signed up for the program, but from what I read, I think that the nicest feature imo is that you'll have projects that will be graded and reviewed by professional developers (including a final proctored exam), who are also mentors.
For people who may struggle with pacing self-learning, it looks like it adds structure and more discipline to one's learning, and the professional feedback probably adds more confidence in your job-readiness (having teachers is nice).
A significant barrier for many may be price (more accessible than a 12k bootcamp, but still a big jump from the regular Treehouse subscription).
Just my two pesos. :-)

2,678 PointsI would suggest doing as much as you can without starting the program first. You don't want to be familiarizing yourself with new concepts while you're paying such a high monthly fee. While enrolled, you should be perfecting your skills and not learning the basics.

4,071 PointsThat's a great point you make Casey! I was thinking that too I'm going through the Front-End Development track and so far so good(really enjoying it). However, no reason why I should commit to such a high monthly fee while learning new concepts. Thank you for your suggestion will do that!

2,678 PointsCool Walter, I'm doing the same thing as you. I like Treehouse, and I plan to transition to Thinkful afterwards, for mentor support. I tried Udacity Nanodegree, but felt like I get better instruction right here on Treehouse.

12,842 PointsWalter, Also something that Treehouse hasn't come forward with information on yet is how widely known and/or accepted a Treehouse degree is. I'm not going to even consider the Tech degree option until I get a really solid understanding as to what value I'm getting for my money. I'd say the same for you, there's no reason to plunk down that much money without fully understanding what you're receiving.

4,071 PointsHi Abby, yes I've been doing some research online to see what I can find out about this Techdegree but haven't found anything solid yet. You are very right, on your point of view/suggestion....I will follow it. The program has a hefty price tag, and I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket(savings...lol). The most challenging thing(at least for myself) I think is creating a portfolio on my own vs. creating a portfolio enrolled in this Techdegree course...but we'll see how it goes.
Thank you for your input!

3,949 PointsFor those who benefit from mentor support, Codecademy Pro (about $20/month) offers "live chat" advisors who do 1:1 code reviews and give you feedback on the code as well as "big picture stuff" (career-wise).
It's a nice middle ground before commiting to something more expensive like a tech degree or an in-person bootcamp.
In short, I totally agree with the feedback re: being aware of what will compliment your learning at different stages and going for it.
