How come you can't autocomplete branch names with the TAB button?

Terminal won't let me autocomplete branch names when using the 'git checkout', 'git branch', or any other commands. Is there any way I can fix this? Is there something I need to change in the bash profile file? Or is this something I just have to live with?

Hi, Mathew, git itself does not come with that kind of autocompletion, however, you can get the tab completion for git command and branch names by installing a bash script, I'd suggest take a look at this blog post on how to do it. http://code-worrier.com/blog/autocomplete-git/
